Lesson 2
Walking in the Spirit
Success in Witnessing is simply sharing Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God.
Video ― Introduction to Lesson Two
Understanding how we can have a continual walk with the Lord —“Walking in the Spirit.”
As you may have already experienced — and will discover even more — your walk with the Lord has a great deal to do with recognizing those people whose hearts God has already been preparing so they will “hear the Gospel.”
This kind of spiritual sensitivity is what I refer to as an attitude: “The Hem of the Garment.”
“The Christian life is so simple that we stumble over the very simplicity of it, and yet it is so
difficult that no one can live it in our own ability” – Bill Bright
“We struggle with obeying, not with lack of knowledge. – Chuck Swindoll Why do we struggle with being obedient in witnessing?
Quote from Bill Bright – “The Holy Spirit is the key to supernatural life” "As you walk in the Holy Spirit by faith practice Spiritual Breathing. You never again will live a spiritual defeat for more than a few minutes at a time.” I know that if you continue asking God to give you the ability to walk daily empowered by Holy Spirit and communicate the Gospel to others, He will do it! Christ said in Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
One way He'll do it is to direct you towards special training to help develop your skills and understanding like this. How do you continue your daily walk with the Lord?
Now Listen to Bill Bright, over 60 years of personal evangelism and equipping hundreds of thousands of believers to do likewise. What was the foundation the secret of his life that God used so greatly. In the 1960s, Dr. Bill Bright introduced a simple but life-changing concept: Spiritual Breathing.

What Don Has Learned
From my personal experience—and through my relationships with other disciples—regarding Spiritual Breathing, I’ve learned something very important:
If you practice only two parts of the process—confessing your sins and asking for the filling of the Holy Spirit—you will not experience the life-changing transformation God desires for you.
Yes, confession is essential. As you acknowledge your sin moment by moment, it enables you to maintain a holy and pure relationship with the Lord. Confession is simply saying, “God, I acknowledge that my actions were wrong.” “Not up to our standard”
By recognizing and admitting what your sinful actions are, you will know what needs to change?
Example: Driving down the road all of a sudden you're lit up, bright flashing lights behind you. You pull over when you think to yourself “O! Boy!, I get to find out what I've done wrong.
Most likely you'll actually say “O this is all I need! I haven't done anything wrong why is he stopping me?”.
It is the Holy Spirit work to relive your sins. Do not look for sins in your life. Don't - woe is me. Don't spend time dwelling on your sin. This is why Jesus died for you, you could be free, be a righteous vessel to be used by the Lord.
Do not miss the most important step.
The Heart of a victorious life: Romans 12:1–2
We must surrender our total mind and will to the Lord. The most important truth in this session is found in Romans 12: 1-2
12:1 … by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)
This is what ‘Walking in the Spirit’ looks like:
- Daily surrender.
- A mind renewed.
- A life set apart.
- A bold obedience.
- A heart for those who are lost.
- Filled by Faith – this may take a while to grasp.
Bill Bright quote “Again, you are not filled with the Holy Spirit because you desire to be filled nor because you confess your sins or present your body a living sacrifice - you are filled by faith.”
Being filled with the Holy Spirit, however, is not a once-and-for-all experience. There are many fillings, as is made clear in Ephesians 5:18. In the Greek language in which this command was originally written, the meaning is clearer than that in most English translations. This command of God means to be constantly and continually filled, controlled and empowered with the Holy Spirit as a Way Of Life.
Spiritual Breathing makes it possible—helping you maintain a clean heart and a close walk with God, day by day. “Faith filled and live by Faith”
Take aways:
Keep It Simple, Saints (KISS)
Walking in the Spirit is not complicated. In fact, God designed it to be simple. Why? Because He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to bring glory to Him.
- He created a planet for us to have fellowship and glorify Him.
- He provided your daily needs. Man choose to disobey.
- We are not Condemned. He sent His Son to die for you.
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”—Romans 5:8
- God knew you couldn’t save yourself.
- God knows you couldn’t live a holy life without Him.
- He has given you the Holy Spirit, to indwell you.
- We need to simply
- trust and obey.
Conclusion:
Since the object of your faith is God and His Word, I suggest that you pray.
thank Him for forgiveness of your sins, claim Cleansing through Christ blood shed on the cross for you. Tell God your heart that you really desire to surrender all. Thank Him and claim the fullness of His Spirit as an expression of your faith in God's command and in His promise. Pray now.
