Lesson 7

Presenting the Gospel-Complete, Concise and Personal

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved . . . For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then . . . to more than five hundred brothers at one time . . . – I Corinthians 15:

ASSIGNMENT 60 SECOND GOSPEL!

  1. FIND a close friend who is a believer
    1. Show him or her your list of Gospel components and the printed assignment.
    2. Discuss the meaning of “the Gospel” with your friend ― briefly or at length! Ask your friend to help you expand or modify the list you have made of the essential components of the Gospel. You may use the Bible or other sources if you wish.
    3. Ask your friend to meet with you again in [15 minutes? an hour? a day? three days? a week?] ― however long you need to complete step 2, a time convenient to both of you.
  2. WRITE a brief word-for-word Gospel Presentation that includes all the essential parts of the Gospel that you’ve previously identified; do this in a quiet place where you have enough time.
    1. Think of yourself being in a situation where someone has asked you to share what it means to be a Christian or how to get to heaven or what you believe, etc.; and in a situation where you have only a very brief time to answer.
    2. Write in sentences that, to the best of your ability, represent the way you normally talk.
    3. Don’t worry about the “address” of any Bible verses, if you use them. Just do like Billy Graham, “the Bible says . . . “
    4. Revise your presentation by reading it aloud and “hearing” what it needs to improve.
    5. Time your presentation. Revise it once more if needed to get it no longer than 75 seconds, no shorter than 30.
  3. MEET with your friend again as pre-arranged.
    1. Role play your presentation, your friend being the listener who is hearing the Gospel. You may read it if necessary, deliver it from memory if possible.
    2. Talk about your presentation with your friend and do it once or twice more. Relax.

The Lord bless your efforts to be a light to those around you and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ as often as you can and wherever He leads you! If you need help understanding the homework, or want to share the results of it, or just want to discuss anything in this Training Manual, please feel free to drop me a line or give me a call.
